Profile Bio Text
Originally from France, Claudine Longet was a Las Vegas showgirl when crooner Andy Williams discovered her. In her few TV and film appearances, she was typecast as the innocently foxy mademoiselle. Given a contract by A&M Records, she recorded mostly soft covers of songs by popular rock groups. It wasn`t until after she`d left Williams, however, that she really got famous. In 1976 she shot and killed champion skier Vladimir "Spider" Sabich, her long-time boyfriend. After a highly publicized murder trial, Longet was convicted of criminal negligence and sentenced to 30 days in jail.
The night she shot Spider, Longet reportedly stayed at the house of neighbor John Denver.
Career
In 1968, Longet appeared in The Party with Peter Sellers and sang "Nothing to Lose" by Henry Mancini. She recorded a series of five albums for A&M Records between 1966 and 1970 and two albums for Williams`s Barnaby label in 1971 and 1972. One song, "Wanderlove" (music and lyrics by Mason Williams), went to #7 on the charts in Singapore and still occasionally gets airplay on Asian radio.
Longet also made frequent acting appearances in television series, including a recurring role in television`s McHale`s Navy, and she appeared from time to time on Williams` variety series and specials. Williams called Longet a beautiful, sleek brunette with large, doe eyes, "my favorite French singer". She and Williams separated in 1969 but did not formally divorce until 6 years later in 1975
