Early life
He was born to architect parents in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England and graduated in architecture himself before moving to Glasgow where he studied drama at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He then travelled in the Far East.
Television
His Television work includes three BBC period dramas: The Moonstone with Keeley Hawes, Madame Bovary with Frances O`Connor and as Lord Charles Maulver in the 2007 five-part series Cranford.
Personal life
He has been married to Emma Thompson since 2003 and they have a daughter, Gaia Romilly Wise. He also plays the guitar.
