Couple Profile
Born in central Massachusetts, Jean was raised in a small rural town. She was the middle child with a sister and a brother who were both musical talents, as were both her parents. She was a brownie and girl scout (her mother was the troop leader), and she played basketball in the elementary school league, which her father coached. Her first stage appearance was her school`s second grade Christmas play, in which she sang a solo called "Must Be Santa," but she was truly bitten by the theatre bug when she had two lines of dialogue as Marta in "The Sound of Music." By the time she was a teenager, almost every day of the week her mother drove her to ballet, tap and jazz dance classes, as well as voice lessons. Her first professional job was the title role in the musical "Annie," at Theatre by the Sea in Rhode Island, which was followed by a number of other musicals and plays in the New England area.
When she was fourteen, she competed in a contest called "Talent America," and made it to the finals in New York City singing a Barbara Streisand medley of songs from "Funny Girl." She came in second (the winner from the preceding year was Patrick Dempsey, who performed a juggling comedy routine that was totally dreamy). Through the contest, she landed an agent and the following year auditioned for the original Broadway Cast of "Into the Woods." She was cast in the role of Snow White and also as the understudy of Little Red and Rapunzel, both of which she performed during her contracted time with the show. During this time, she lived in New York in a studio apartment and went to the Professional Children`s School, commuting back home to Mass for her days off.
The following year, her family moved to Maryland and she booked the role of Tia in the John Hughes film "Uncle Buck," starring John Candy. She packed up again and flew to Chicago to work with the legendary actor and talented director.
Upon completing the movie, she returned to Maryland and decided to "be a normal kid" and finished off high school. She then attended Columbia College at Columbia University in New York City earning her BA in English Lit. Upon graduating, she gave herself three months to get a job in show business before defaulting to using her English degree, but quickly booked the part of a mysterious operator in an MCI commercial, which took the pressure off. Soon after, she got her next big break and played the singer Rowena Morgan in the movie "Mr. Holland’s Opus," starring Richard Dreyfus. Within a year, she was singing again as Luisa in Michael Ritchie`s film version of the musical "The Fantasticks."
During the next few years, Jean got married and she and her husband bought an apartment in New York City. She appeared onstage in numerous musicals, did several television movies and guest spots as well as a recurring role of Nurse Diane on the NBC sitcom "Mad About You." She was also a regular in the NBC dramedy "Cold Feet." Her next big project was the CBS sitcom, "Yes, Dear," in which she was fortunate enough to play Kim Warner for the next six years. During this time, she had two children and laughed a lot. She also performed in many musicals in the Los Angeles area during her hiatuses, such as Company, Pippin and Applause.
Since "Yes, Dear," Jean has guest starred on the shows "Grey`s Anatomy," "The Ghost Whisperer," and the upcoming "Eli Stone." She appeared as Lois Lane in the New York and Los Angeles performances of "It`s a Bird, It`s a Plane, It`s Superman!" and she has been a soloist for numerous charity events and benefits. She is enjoying her family and the challenges of motherhood, and excited for what the future will bring...
