Couple Profile
Lisa Edelstein was born on May 21, 1966 in Boston, Massachusetts, but grew up in Wayne, New Jersey. She attended Wayne Valley High School, graduated in 1984 and moved to New York to study professional acting at the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. While living in New York City, Lisa became active in the local club scene, so much so that she was named New York City’s “Queen of Downtown” in the James St. James 1999 book, “Disco Bloodbath.” Known as “Lisa E.” in the clubbing circuit, Edelstein used her fame to write and star in the AIDS-inspired musical “Positive Me.” In 1990, Lisa received her first TV gig hosting the MTV show, “Awake on the Wild Side.”
Edelstein wasn’t just a celebutante in the 1990s; she also had small roles on films such as the 1991 “The Doors,” the award-winning 1997 “As Good As It Gets,” the 1998 movie “Susan’s Plan” and the 1999 “30 Days.” Lisa’s film credits also include “Keeping the Faith,” “What Women Want,” “Black River,” “Daddy Day Care,” “Fathers and Sons,” and “Say Uncle.”
Aside from small movie roles, Lisa Edelstein also appeared in various TV shows, such as “ER,” “Just Shoot Me,” “Frasier,” “Sports Night,” “Mad about You,” “Wings,” “The Larry Sanders Show,” “Relativity,” and “Wings.” Some of the most notable TV appearances Lisa has done include a 2-episode guest role in “Seinfeld,” and a 9-episode role as Patty Karp in the CBS sitcom “Almost Perfect.”
By the end of the 1990s, Lisa Edelstein received bigger roles in TV dramas, including a role on “The West Wing,” in “Ally McBeal,” and in “Felicity.” She continued to guest star in various hit shows, including “Leap of Faith,” “Without a Trace,” “The Practice” and “Judging Amy.” Lisa Edelstein has also lent her voice in a number of animated TV shows and video games, such the “Superman: The Animated Series” as Mercy Graves, on “King of the Hill,” “American Dad” and the video game “Blade Runner.”
Although Lisa Edelstein has an extensive portfolio, she is most popular as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the FOX hit show “House, M.D.” On the show, she plays the Dean of Medicine at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital and Gregory House’s favorite person to mock, tease and play pranks on. While working on House, Lisa Edelstein also starred in the made-for-TV Lifetime Movie Network film “Special Delivery” in 2008.
