The cute, elfin, auburn haired Mary Lou Metzger was born to Ernie and Helen Metzger in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who later moved to Philadelphia. She got any early start in show business when she portrayed Amaryliss in a national tour of Meredith Wilson`s "The Music Man" and also appeared in various plays and musicals and the "Ted Mack Family Hour" (1952) on television. After appearing on the _"Arthur Godfrey All American College Bowl" (1955)_ during college, she joined "The Lawrence Welk Show" (1955) in May 1970, first in chorus numbers and later singing with Bob Lido and the Hotsy Totsy Boys, trio arrangements with Gail Farrell and Sandi Griffiths, various solo numbers, and song/dance numbers with Jack Imel. She also is best known as "the girl" Lawrence dances with at the end of the show. Today, the versatile performer remains busy as ever with personal appearances at theaters, telethons, television commercials, concerts and public television pledge drives.
