Matthew Gray Gubler (born March 9, 1980) is an American actor, film director, sketch artist, and former fashion model.
The Las Vegas, Nevada-born actor made his début in the film The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004) as Intern #1, and now he is best known for his role as the young genius Dr. Spencer Reid in the CBS television show Criminal Minds. Coincidentally, his character on the show was also born and raised in Las Vegas. He also had a small role in RV as the disreputed Joe Joe. Gubler also worked as a model before becoming an actor. He has worked with DNA Model Management, Tommy Hilfiger, and numerous fashion designers. Matthew was interning for Wes Anderson at the same time he was modeling, Wes encouraged him to audition for a part in his movie "The Life Aquatic" he did and was casted as `Intern #1`.
Before graduating from New York University`s Tisch School of the Arts, he had already created several movies that were mostly filmed in his hometown of Las Vegas as well as New York City. His own films often deal with the macabre which may have foreshadowed his machete work in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.

Matthew Gray Gubler (born 9 March 1980) is an American actor, film director, painter, photographer, editor, and former fashion model. He is best known for his role as the young genius Dr. Spencer Reid in the CBS television show Criminal Minds, of which he has also directed four episodes. Gubler has appeared in (500) Days of Summer as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's friend Paul and he is the voice of Simon Seville, one of the chipmunks from Alvin and the Chipmunks, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked. Gubler has also directed and created several movies that were mostly filmed in his hometown of Las Vegas as well as New York City, prior to his graduation from NYU.
