Career:
Initially Cattermole had dreams of being a rugby star, but didn`t feel that he was good enough to pursue this dream. Like Hannah Spearritt, Cattermole was a member of the National Youth Music Theatre and appeared, alongside Spearritt, in "Pendragon" (1994). While at college he duetted in a college production with Emma Bunton, later to become famous as a member of the Spice Girls. One of Cattermole`s tutors recalled in an interview:
"Paul was a quiet student and didn`t initially exhibit the star quality he clearly has. However, something clicked when Paul and Emma Bunton, who was in the same class the year before, ended up duetting in a college production, and from then on I half-expected that he would go on to great things."
Cattermole`s previous jobs before S Club 7 included being a paperboy, a postman, a butcher, a theatre doorman, a dustman and a toilet cleaner. He did a theatre and acting course at the prestigious Mountview Drama School. While at Mountview he was the frontman for nu metal band Skua which together with school friends he had been part of since the early 90`s. He was spotted by Simon Fuller`s 19 Entertainment when he appeared in a show there and was asked to audition for S Club 7.
S Club 7:
The group had four UK number one hit singles, one UK number one album and one US top ten hit. He co-starred in the groups own TV series - Miami 7 (1999), L.A. 7 (2000), Hollywood 7 (2001) and the first four episodes of Viva S Club (2002). He took part in two UK tours, won two prestigious BRIT Awards and numerous other awards. Most famously, in March 2001, he was arrested and cautioned (along with fellow S Club 7 members Jon Lee and Bradley McIntosh) after being caught in possession of cannabis in London`s Covent Garden. In October 2001, amid a blaze of publicity, Hannah Spearritt revealed that she had been in a secret relationship with Cattermole for the previous 6 months.
Skua:
Cattermole was the first to leave S Club 7, in June 2002, declaring his dislike of pop music and the highly commercialised world of pop in general. After leaving S Club he rejoined his old band Skua (which featured guitarist Stevie K of the Stevie k band). However, with just a few live shows and a brief recording session Skua split up less than a year later. Cattermole vanished into obscurity until early 2005 when he re-emerged as the lead singer and songwriter of a rock band called Charlie Bullitt. Throughout most of 2005 the group performed in a number of clubs and pubs in such places as London, Brighton and Aberdeen - but they failed to attract any significant attention and in October 2005 Cattermole left the group. In 2003 he moonlighted on drums with a newly reformed Shed 7.
In 2006 Cattermole said that he hated being part of a manufactured band and is unlikely to be part of any reunion. During the same interview he also revealed that he and Wigan Athletic and England Under-21 footballer Lee Cattermole are cousins.
2006- Present:
Cattermole split up with Hannah Spearritt in early 2006. In October 2007 an official MySpace page appeared for Cattermole, containing 4 new songs co-written with friend Lee Turner.
In the run-up to Christmas 2007, Paul and his former S Club band-mate Bradley McIntosh did DJ sets for students at the University of Winchester Christmas Ball (1 December) and at The Old Firestation, the club for the Bournemouth University Students Union (10 December).
Paul digitally released an EP named `You Make Me Happy` (built up of the songs sampled on his MySpace page) late September 2008, although there were no music videos made for this, which was a disappointment to many fans, many of which have expressed interest into his new career.
S Club 3:
Even though Cattermole left the pop group S Club 7 in 2002, a year before they split, to form his own band, Skua, he has agreed to join the mini S Club 3 reunion along with former bandmates Jo O`Meara and Bradley McIntosh. The trio will be performing at various universities and nightclubs, as well as the Dartford Festival.
