Sophia Loren is one of the most famous stars of all time. She grew up poor in post war Italy in the slums of Pozzuoli just outside Naples as the illegitimate child of Romilda Villani and Riccardo Scicolone to became one of the highest paid performers in the world. After competing in beauty contests and having insignificant parts in films as "Luci del variet�" (1950) and "Quo Vadis" (1951), she met movie producer Carlo Ponti,22 years her senior, that transformed her career and whom she married for life. She worked with all the greatest leading men of her time and in 1961, she was the first actor to win an Oscar for a non english film ("La Ciociara"/"Two Women") and it established her as a talented and respected actress. This beautiful lady became one of the major sex symbols in cinema history and has one of the longest careers, still working today at 75 years of age.
