A rising Hollywood actor decides to take personal revenge against a group of four persistent photographers to make them pay for almost causing a personal tragedy involving his wife and son.
Rated PG-13 for intense violent sequences, sexual content and language.
Bo Laramie (Cole Hauser), his wife Abby (Robin Tunney), an elementary school teacher, and their 8-year-old son Zach (Blake Bryan) used to live in Montana, but now live in Malibu, California. Bo is a rising movie star who has finally achieved major success with his newest movie.
But success comes at a price, in the form of four sleazy, persistent photographers -- Rex Harper (Tom Sizemore), Wendell Stokes (Daniel Baldwin), Leonard Clark (Tom Hollander), and Kevin Rosner (Kevin Gage), who harass Bo and his family. Using dishonest methods of getting the money shot regardless of what it takes, they'll stop at nothing in exploiting Bo for every last penny they can possibly get.
The day after the big premiere of Bo's new movie, 'Adrenaline Force', a very popular action movie that made him famous almost overnight, Bo takes Zach to soccer practice, where he’s immediately troubled by the sight of Rex, snapping pictures of Zach on the field. It’s one thing to have himself on display on magazine racks all over the world, but Bo is clearly disturbed by Rex taking pictures of Zach.
Bo initially takes the high road, politely asking Rex to back off. Though Rex pretends to back off, he soon returns with a van in which his passengers are Wendell, Leonard, and Kevin, with Rex snapping away when Bo, who's been pushed too far, punches Rex in the face.
One of these shots ends up on the cover of a tabloid. Events and emotions escalate instantly. Bo gets sued for $500,000 and is asked for a public apology for his actions. Bo, who refuses to apologize, is sentenced to anger management therapy, with Dr. Jennifer Kelley (Jordan Baker), a mild-mannered psychiatrist, while Rex vows to destroy Bo's life.
Rex, Wendell, Leonard, and Kevin are not only egotistical, but they also don’t have much in the way of lives outside their jobs. This is in contrast to Bo, who works hard to maintain a personal existence that is separate from his career. Bo’s desire for payback also intensifies, but only in response to increasing threats and intrusions by Rex and his cohorts.
Rex even looks through Bo's garbage for information, and has Leonard try to make Abby think Bo's cheating on her. Later, while Bo, Abby, and Zach are out in their car, Rex and his crew drive up beside them, in four different vehicles, and start taking pictures.
All the flashing is keeping Bo from seeing anything while he's driving. That forces Bo to stop at an intersection, and their car gets hit violently by a pickup truck. Rex and his crew rush out of their vehicles to snap photos of the wreck that they caused. Bo and his family are injured and have been knocked unconscious. Leonard calls for an ambulance, and then continues snapping pictures.
The man who was driving the pickup truck went through his own windshield, and he's dead. A woman named Marcy (Fay Masterson), who had been out on a date with Rex and in his car, watches Rex and his crew snapping pictures. Bo regains consciousness, and sees Rex snapping pictures. Rex and his crew leave.
Bo is not seriously injured. At Cypress View Hospital, Abby undergoes surgery in which Dr. Hanson (Clyde Kusatsu) has to remove her spleen, and she'll be on painkillers for a few weeks to control the pain from her injuries. Zach is stable, and his vital signs are good, but he's in a coma.
In order to stop Marcy from telling what she knows about the wreck, Rex drugs Marcy, videotapes her having sex with him, without his face on the video, and he shows her the video, warning her to be quiet about the wreck, or he'll send the video to every porno site in the internet, and make sure a copy of it reaches her father's desk at the State Department.
Bo talks to LAPD detective Burton (Dennis Farina). Burton says that Rex, Wendell, Leonard, and Kevin each gave him the same story, that they drove up on the wreck some time after it happened. Burto
