Wikipedia Text

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas is a 2003 American animated swashbuckling Fantasy Adventure film produced by DreamWorks Animation, using traditional 2D animation with some 3D. This is the last animated feature film to use the DreamWorks Pictures logo, but also the last DreamWorks animated film that uses traditional animation as it failed to meet box office expectations and due to DreamWorks' decision that the American public would be more interested in computer animation. It covers the story of Sinbad (voiced by Brad Pitt), a pirate (whose character comes from Arabic roots, though the film is primarily Greek in nature), who travels the sea in typical Greek epic fashion on a quest to recover the lost Book of Peace from Eris (voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer), the Greek Goddess of Chaos, in order to save his childhood friend, Prince Proteus (voiced by Joseph Fiennes), from accepting Sinbad's death sentence.

Wikipedia Plot

The film opens with Eris narrating to her pet constellations-monsters how easy it is to collapse the mortal world into chaos. When she sees what is unravelling below, she sends Cetus, her sea monster, to cause destruction. Below, Sinbad intends to steal for the legendary "Book of Peace", which protects the land from chaos while it travels to Syracuse, Sicily. Proteus is guarding it on its way. While Sinbad and his crew are trying to steal the Book, Cetus attacks the ship. Sinbad and Proteus work together to kill the monster, but Sinbad is dragged under water by one of its tentacles. He is saved by Eris, who makes a deal with him: in exchange for stealing and giving her the Book of Peace, she will give him whatever he wants. Sinbad and his crew go to the palace to steal the Book, but Sinbad leaves after he meets Proteus's fiancée Marina (voiced by Catherine Zeta-Jones). Anticipating this, Eris impersonates Sinbad and steals the book. Sinbad is arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. Proteus demands substitution, which allows Sinbad to leave to retrieve the book. Marina stows away to make sure that Sinbad goes after the book.

Throughout the movie, Eris sends various monsters to interfere with the voyage. First, she sends sirens to bewitch the crew with their songs. Marina and the ship's dog, Spike, who are immune to the sirens, protect the crew from being drowned to death, and navigate the ship back to open water. In Syracuse, King Dymas tries to smuggle Proteus out of the city; however, Proteus holds faith in Sinbad, remaining in captivity.

Next, Eris sends the Roc, which sends temperatures to freezing. When the crew tries to break up the ice, they are attacked by the Roc. While trying to rescue a crewman, Marina is captured by it and taken to the top of a frozen tower. Sinbad climbs up the side of the tower to rescue her, killing the Roc in the process and allowing the group to continue. In the following night, Sinbad reveals to Marina that, when she came to Syracuse to meet Proteus, he'd left the city, because he couldn't bear to see his best friend with the woman that he loved. However, Marina refuses his advances, faced with the approaching task.

They had reached the entrance of Tartarus; unfortunately, it comes after the edge of the world. Sinbad has his crew set the sails so the ship will fly. Marina and Sinbad go through the gates alone, entering Eris's realm. She then reveals that her real plan wasn't to frame Sinbad; she knew Proteus would take Sinbad's place, and when Sinbad didn't return, he would be put to death, leaving Syracuse without a rightful heir, to "tumble into glorious chaos". Eris agrees to surrender the Book, giving him her word as a Goddess, if Sinbad truthfully answers the question, "If you don't get the Book, will you go back to die?" He answers yes; Eris calls him a liar, and sends him back to the mortal world.

Back in Syracuse, the time allotted to Sinbad has elapsed, and Proteus is waiting to be beheaded. At the last second, Sinbad and his crew appears, saving Proteus, but condemning Sinbad. Just as the sword is descending, the blade shatters and Eris appears. She berates Sinbad, furious, which confuses him. He then realizes that, by returning to Syracuse without the Book, he proves that he was telling the truth, and that Eris must now relinquish the Book of Peace. After she does so, Sinbad leaves Syracuse to embark on another voyage, leaving Marina behind. Proteus, seeing that Marina had changed and fallen in love with Sinbad, releases her from their engagement (which had been arranged some years before); she once again stows away on Sinbad's ship, and they set sail over the horizon.
